Possible router issue

This might belong in Computer help but I suspect it's a router issue.

prior to today I was using a different internet totally, today I hooked up Charter, one of the Morotola wireless cable modem routers, don't have the model # off hand but I believe it's the only one they make. Got it new a few days ago.

Before today Pidgin was working fine, now when I try to connect to Yahoo I get an unable to connect with an unknown error. Since it worked up until I set up the new router I have to believe it's a Router issue. AIM however connects fine, now I looked in the settings and the firewall in the router is shut off. It doesn't have a whole lot of configuration options, and aside from Pidgin not connecting to Yahoo, I haven't noticed anything internet wise not working. If I use Yahoo Messenger it connects which has me slightly puzzled.

This is a long shot but maybe somebody here has an idea?
