Possible Printer Company Conspiracy?

I've got an HP G85 AIO printer that I have been using on my current rig w/ the native Win XP print driver. I've been pleased when printing labels for my own CD's & DVD's. Recently, I had an issue printing some boarders w/ Word documents. After going through all the help files at MS Office on-line, I think to myself, maybe it's a possibledriver issue.

I go to HP.com, download the most recent driver for my G85 and try to print my word document. Still not working, I give up for the night, but I don't un-install the driver. Today, I print a new label for a CD and low and behold, the label is more vibrant than any label I have ever printed before! :Q

I think that I must be hung-over 😉 so I re-print a label I did a week ago and compare the two. Guess what, using the latest HP driver, the print is more vibrant  , but it has to use more ink correct?

Conspiracy? 😕

Most likely has different color matching data.

Not necessarily more ink (in fact very unlikely, % coverage is % coverage), but different. Color profiles are frequently adjusted & fine tuned (both in firmware and drivers).

Something to do with the HP software, most likely has a default darkness setting higher. Not sure though ZIM 😛. Printer boy did his best.

Viper GTS
This seems the most likely.

Viper GTS, the label I printed w/ the native XP driver isn't as vibrant; the label I printed w/ the HP driver is more vibrant and the black areas are darker. Both were printed using the "best" setting in the print properties. So if one is lighter and less vibrant and the other is more vibrant and has a darker black, wouldn't more ink be used? 😕

That is logical.

The only thing I blame them for is not including A-B USB cables. Luckily I've learned to always keep a few spares handy.

It's probably neglibible... the color balancing was probably adjusted so that less of some inks are used but more of others are used... But then again, like the first respondent said... we all blame Carly 😉

When drivers first come out, they may not be optimized; the get it out the door syndrome.

I used to hate that, now I don't care, I've discovered the sheer joy of network printers. Cut a CAT5, plug it in, print from anywhere.
