hi guys, I have had this system built for over 2 years now, shortly after putting it together I would get random crashes while playing games, but it wouldnt happent to often so I did not worry about it. Then I started playing other games that stressed out my system more. My temperatures on everything looked fine on speedfan and EVGA tuner. Mostly I would be playing a game and my screen would go black but i could still hear my computer fans running. I would have to restart the pc. This would happen almost every day, I would play games for about 5+ hours a day. Then one day it just started doing this almost instantly starting a game. I reset the bios by taking the battery out for 30+minutes and putting it back in, that didnt work well. but when i tried to play counterstrike, it ran fine for a couple minutes then the game froze and I ctrl+alt+del and exited the game.

Heres my system specs
Motherboard P6T Deluxe V2
6 gb G.Skill ram
evga gtx 285 video card
intel i7 920 processor
Corsaire Tx850w power supply

ok i just bought a new gtx 570 . I started monitoring my +12V on speedfan, its flat lined on 11.3 as i type this, I have a torrent program running and a game patching right now, is the 11.3 conclusive that my psu might be messed up? I am also hearing a low buzzing sound comming from it when I do something like open a webpage or really do anything on the pc.

First of all, software is notoriously bad at reading voltages. It's almost never right.

Since it's a Corsair power supply, I suggest you go register and ask here:

Yellowbeard from there posts here from time to time, but IMO, it's best to go to the source.

As for getting accurate readings from your PSU:

FWIW, the ATX specifications says the lower limit for the 12 volt rail is 11.4 volts. (+/- 5%)

BoomerD is correct that software is not very accurate when monitoring voltages. That being said if it is indeed 11.3 or around there I would definitely contact the PSU manufacturer as the PSU is on the very edge of ATX specifications.

Good PSUs keep their rails well within +/- 5%, just like good PSUs keep their rails' ripple not more than 1/4 the maximum allowed by the ATX spec.

Do you still have your GTX285 to test with? We have no problems replacing the PSU if it's the culprit but you may be able to avoid multiple RMAs if you can isolate the problem accurately.
