Possible power problem

Hi.

I recently upgraded my computer to an Athlon XP 1600+ (ASUS A7V333 mainboard). Temperatures were a bit high (my previous processor fried, so I'm a bit paranoid) so I've got a case with 6 case fans (overkill? :)). I also decided to upgrade a bit by getting a new 80GB Maxtor D740X drive. However, when I hooked everything up, the BIOS wouldn't recognise my old Maxtor 20GB drive (identification was garbled on BIOS). After distributing the power a bit differently, that cleared up and windows booted. However, it booted very slowly indeed.

Unplugging the new HD let me boot up into Windows normally. Now, however, the floppy drive isn't working. I've tried it on two floppy power connectors, and I've even tried another floppy drive.

The only reason I can think of for these things to happen is that there isn't enough power getting to certain parts of the computer. I have a 300W AMD approved PSU (although I hear that calling it 300W doesn't necessarily mean it isn't 250W). A brief list of bits in my computer:

Creative GeForce3 Ti200
300W PSU
ASUS A7v333 with Athlon XP 1600+
6 case fans @ 2.76W each
Maxtor 20GB HD
Creative Encore 6x DVD
TDK 32-12-10 CD-RW drive
Creative DXR3 DVD decoder card
3 USB devices (MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, Philips Webcam, Terayon Cable Modem)

I'd appreciate any comments, as I'm a bit stuck for ideas! I've tried unplugging the CD and DVD drives but to no avail. I have the option of getting a 450W AMD approved PSU, but I don't want to waste my money needlessly...

Update: I've got the floppy working by changing the cable again. I will attempt the 80GB hard drive soon when I get brave... ;)

Final update: I got the HD working... swapped the cable (again) and everything came to life. I'm going to keep an eye on things because I still think there's something not quite right....
