I just upgraded my computer to an AMD X2 not long ago... and just now took my old AMD 3500+ and heatsink and installed it into my Son's computer. Everything seemed to go fine till I looked at the CPU temps... Its Idleing between 35-40c which seemed normal for a standard heatsink and fan, but when I apply a load to the cpu the temp immediatly jumps to around 60c and keeps climbing. I stop that application when the temps are nearing 70c and it almost immediatly comes back down to around 40c.
I have removed the heatsink and cleaned it off with alcohol 3 times now and re-applied AS5... the first time I think I put too much on... the second time was probably ok... and the 3rd time I followed the instructions on Artic Silvers site and just put a dab about the size of a grain of rice. When I remove the Heatsink the paste looks evenly distributed over the cpu...
Each time the temps are in the same ranges and this is the same cpu and heatsink I used to use just a different motherboard.... The Heatsink never gets hot to the touch... just warm...
Could this just be a bad sensor on the MB?
