I'm working on a friend's computer (WinXP Home OS). This machine was loaded with malware. I went through all the steps in Schadenfroh's Security Thread:
*Uninstalled all suspicious software including fake removal tools
*Turned off Sys Restore
*Installed and updated Ad-aware, Spysweeper, KAV, SS&D, Spyware blaster, Spyware Doctor, CCleaner, CWShredder and Rebooted into safemode.
*Ran through all of the above listed scans and removed everything. rebooting throughout
After rebooting into windows normally I figured all would be well but I kept getting pop ups in Opera.
*I update his HOSTS file
*Reran a lot of the scans and CWS locates VX2.look2me and says it removed it (also did this in safemode)
I scanned again and it remained. So I download Kill2me, run it and it says it can't find anything. I continue anyways and reboot. CWS still reports a look2me infection. I then download Lavasoft VX2 cleaner and I get THIS ***If someone could please host this picture I'd be thankfull***
Any ideas? To whom or how do I report this?
