Two things have been keeping me up, one is weather or not the setup below is good, and the second being weather or not I should buy a new PC now.
1 Triple A PC games will most likely be the most taxing thing on it, though I play plenty of old games and emulator games. Some work with photoshop and 3d apps like Zbrush, max, Unreal Editor.
2 Apprently my budget is 1800,- USD as google tells me that's how much 1200,- euro's is.
3 I live in Jesus fuck it costs almost as much in euro's as in USD. Some call it Holland.
4 I have no Brand preference.
5 I will reuse 2 dvd drives, 1 soundcard (Sound Blaster X-Fi), and one harddrive ( samsung F1 1TB), and my monitor ( Dell 2007WFP 20" 1680x1050)
6 ()
7 I would love to overlock it. I will most likey try to see how far it will go, but keep it at stock untill I need it to run games or apps at proper FPS. I have only tried to OC one other PC before and it did not work well
8 Now, but if advised I can wait a few months, or even not buy for the next 2 years.
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6
CPU Intel Core i5 i5-750
CPU Cooler Noctua NH-U12P SE2
Video Card Gigabyte Radeon HD 5850
Case Lian Li PC-A70FB
RAM 4GB OCZ Platinum 1333 MHz / PC3-10666 CL7
PSU Corsair HX750W
I've read good reviews of the Corsair HX850, so I assume the HX750 is good too, I appreciate it has long flat cables.
I want the Lian-li case as my current one has given me many headaches when it comes to installation, cable management and maintenance. The Lain-li has dustfilters, plenty of space, room for cable management, nice fans.
But I'm interested in it's 20,- more expesnive borther with a door the A71F.
Can anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of having a door like noise, ventilation etc?
Also any info on better products, better combinations, problems particular manufacturors might have, shortages, revision coming very soon is welcome.
I rememer reading there being a shortage of the new radeon 5xx series, and a 32nm i5 with smaller L3 cache coming. But tbh I'm not even sure what that smaller cache will mean.
Current Setup
Q6600 @2.4Ghz
GigaByte GA-P35-DS3P
Tuniq Tower 120
Corsair 2GB, DDR2, PC6400, 800 MHz, CL4
8800GT(broken*) (possible replacement a HD5750 or HD4650)
Antec Nine Hundred
Background Info & Reasons
The driving force for me to buy a new PC now is the fact my parents PC has become really crappy, and my 3dcard happend to crap out. I buy a PC every 4 years or so. I give my parents my old PC, as they just browse the web.
My current PC is 2 years old and has served me well, as it's powerful enough to play most games pretty well at 1680x1050. In good part because a lot of games are console ports. If things stay much the same it could last 2 years. Though Crysis and PS2/Wii emulators would benefit greatly from a new rig.
One option I have is to just buy a new 3d card for 130,- or so, and buy my folks a decent 500,- PC. The 500,- would be for their purposes as good as my current so in 2 years I would just have to retire my current PC, instead of giving it to them.
I can also just give them my current one with a shitty 3dcard and buy myself a new gaming rig. But it's a big investment, my next PC may not corrspond well with the next console cycle, depending weather or not next gen consoles come in 2012 or 2014. And on that note 200 to 300,- consoles are become more attractive considering the cost and amount of games they have, despite that I prefer to play/edit games on PC.
Also thank you in advance gentlemen!
