Well, as long as you get a unit that doesn't suffer from excessive backlight bleed, that'd be a fine upgrade. Otherwise, prepare for a round-robin of RMA until you get a properly working panel. I've been told this is a somewhat common issue with all the 1440p 144Hz monitors currently in market.

You have the 980Ti, I would personally go for a 39" - 50" 4K TV that is able to drop down to 1080P 120Hz for gaming.

This is a desktop computer. 27" is as big as I can go. The Eizo FG2421 is @ 22".

At the TFT site, the numbers they report indicate the above monitor is quite a bit 'faster' than what I have as well.

Even 60Hz panels at 1440p regularly have backlight bleed issues and could need to be RMA'd a couple of times before you hit a good one.
