i have a three pc network. Currently i am using a smc 7004abr (has print server) and a smc 2404wbr (802.11b) as a wireless access point which has intermitent connection problems with the usb adapter (802.11b).

I am planing on replacing the wireless setup (the AP and USB card) with a belkin 54g router and 54g internal pci card. My Q's is that would i have any issues using the different brands and if the belkin wireless router would play nice with the wired SMC router. Eventually i will also be adding a HTPC and Xbox connected to Dlink 810 wireless bridge or AP.

My main concern is having faster and stable wireless connection for the third PC and streaming MP3/video via the Dlink bridge.

here is my setup and locations of pc/systems

Basement: smc 7004 abr connected to 2 PC and SMC 2404wbr as a AP
1 floor: will be adding a htpc and xbox connected to Dlink 810
2 floor: 3rd pc with usb 11b adapter.

It should be OK. My own SMC 2804wbr (it has g) is happy to talk to three different wireless NICs at once and has been happy to talk to strange routers at a couple of LAN parties. It seems network hardware is so full of standards from the bottom up, things will talk to each other.

A bit more difficult are Windows network settings. I had troubles recently, but it all went away after deleting and reinstalling TCP/IP. A bit of digging for clean drivers (without all the helpful vendor specific things), might also help.

No expirience of my own with USB wireless, but I've heard differing stories. Some of them might demand minor miracles before they will shut up and just work. No suggestions as to which ones are good.
