Hey guys.. have been here at AT for a while, dont post alot, lurk alot.....

I need some advice.......

I work for a pretty large defense contractor here in the DC Metro area... I travel alot (which i dont mind) I dont get paid overtime since im salary.... I basically do the same thing over and over day in and day out. That is Video Teleconferencing with Tandberg, etc etc.. Network Engineer though....

I have been actively interviewing at different places... Well I applied at a local hospital, for a senior IT position there, and I got an offer today. 10k more than what I make.. THis would allow me to have overtime as well if I worked it.

The benefits are amazin,g the one thing with the old company is they put 10% into my 401k every year regardless if I put a dime in. The hospital has a 403b plan. The medical is hands down awesome....

Just some advice or anything I can ask.

I have thought about asking my company to counter offer, but I doubt they will, they usually arent the ones doing that.... They usually let you walk...

Any advice is welcome + or - 🙂

Cheers all !

The health care industry is in better shape than other industries at the moment. Be somewhat more cautious if this is a county hospital/charity hospital that could have job cuts due to lower tax reciets.

If not go for it.

Well the thing is the IT dept is very very small at the hospital... yet the hospital is very large... They are always deploying new technologies....

I will get to touch routers/siwtches ( more what I wanted where I am at now) etc

I mainly fool with VTC stuff like I said.. have to get approval from a Govt rep etc etc...

So I think I am still young *28* lol you know what I mean though... so...

Could be some growth in the department, assuming they continue advaning with technology.

I would do it if it were me.

LOL. Another DC ATOTer...we need another meet!

The biggest question is, are you happy with the current job?

If not, move on. Sounds like a good move too.

But don't quit current until you have offer from hospital.

You're a network engineer? Shens.

A network engineer wouldn't put their e-mail address in their signature, all the fucking spam crawlers are probably having a field day. Make it visible in your profile and leave it that way, it automatically adds a "remove" to the address and is only visible to logged in forum members anyways.

leave your job, don't accept a counteroffer. That will be a chip on your shoulder the entire time you remain there if you stay
