I am a casual stock trader and usually when I buy stock I tend to stick with it for a prolonged period of time.. I was doing some reading and noticed that symbol: AMD has taken a huge hit and is currently at 4.03.07 at 10:25AM ($12.79) from a high of $35 back in May 06'

My reasoning for a increase in AMD stock soon, is due to the new core that they will be introducing and then also the new ati video cards that will debut also...

So I wanted to get some input on peoples thoughts about this.. whether or not its a good idea.. and also if anyone else knows of any other smart stock buys??

Still to this day I regret not investing in the Nvidia IPO back in like 98 or 99. I calculated what I would have made had I held on to it and it really really really pissed me off I didn't do it.

/sorry to threadjack...needed to vent.

It's funny how everyone touts AMD on this board.

My current portfolio:

NTGR
AGE
TROW
NICE

Planning on buying:

SPIL (already took the profit and waiting for a better buy opp)
KNOT (took a lot of profit before the big drop, company still seems fundamentally strong and will soon be a wall st. darling again. Wait for the right time again).

Any real justification for loading up on AMD at this current moment?

Bottom guessing is the worst technical investing strategy out there. If you're going to bottom guess, at least have a good reasoning for it, ie. 200 day ma line meets current market price.

I won't touch AMD until a strong base with average volume has formed. Check to see if shorts own the stock right now.

Gotta love familiarity bias. Just because you know a company and think their products *may* be good doesn't mean the company is a good investment. AMD isn't a good investment yet.

you might wanna wait a little more than a week to jump on AMD. Somehow I dont think its done dropping yet.
