Ok My freind has a hp win xp sp2 pc that he bought at bestbuy couple years ago with 96mb ram. Ok well the issue was the desktop kinda took long to load up then when the desktop icons came up the hard drive keeps being accessed and you basically have to wait 5 minutes inorder to click on something for it to run smoothly/quick.

Well I looked in the task manager oh BTW he didnt have junk running in the startup just photo program and Nvidia panel crap etc, and I notice in the mem usage graph the yellow line on the graph is higher than a normal running xp os commonly is its almost in the middle of the green graph little window. Well to me from expiernce that indicates virues, ok well I downloaded free edition of AVG and updated then scan for 30 minutes and found 22 infected files most where all worms or whatever well it automatically deleted 19 of them and i had to manually deleted 3 of them.

Ok well after doing some more maintance tweaks on windows like turn down restore point slider, delte internet files, cookies, junk in temp folder of windows dir, adjust internet exployer options like history and stuff, I restarted the pc and still same issue as i explain above. So I was thinking and you guys can help with this please that there might be for virus that AVG didnt didnt detect ohh Yea I forgot I got to run spyware scan which I am going back to the house tommorow and run it, which spyware program should I use? Anyways Do you guys think I need to run another virus scan with a diffrent virus program if so which one thax........

Ohh forgot to mention that I know it has on 96mb ram but thats the way he bought it brand new and even with that litlle ram the pc ran quicker than it does now.

You want to get some more RAM for that thing. I'm wincing at the mere thought of WinXP on 96MB of RAM, that's not even supposed to be possible to install WinXP on 96MB of RAM. Aside from that, try some free online antivirus scanners like TrendMicro HouseCall, and I hear BitDefender has a good one too.

Dude, how old is this system? I can't even remember when the standard ram for off the shelf units was 128MB never mind 96 MB. I'll say put at least 512 MB on that unit to see how fast it will really go. I wonder what the size of the hdd is?

I use Ad-Aware & Ewido. They are both free. Did you pull the cover off & clean out the dust bunnies? Also check the fans & heat sinks, make sure they aren't clogged up or not working. Check the mounting on CPU heatsink, if the box has has been moved around much it could be off or even broken on one side.
