http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/SKU.asp?BCFlag=False&PageType=1&SKU=428386 - for somre reason I keep forgetting to do that :)

I ordered this hard drive and got it for $139.95 after a $40 off $150 coupon from Staples. Could be better with pricematch but I was too lazy. Also got a free 5" B/W TV and a Cadbury cookie tin. Anyway, I just got it today and while the outside box is marked as a 40 GB HD, I was delighted to see a sticker on it that said "Free 5 GB More" and "Plus ATA/100". The actual HD is also marked as such. Now I'm not sure if they gave me this by accident or they mixed up the SKUs, but for the price of $139.99, this HD with a TV and cookie tin definately is attractive.

The free 5 gig more is a standard bonus that maxtor has been offering. I got the drive too at 119$ and it said free 5 gig + ata/100 on the drive too.

I cant complain :)

They don't make the 40s any more. The 45GB version is their new 15GB/platter design. The 45BG is cheaper to make since it only uses 3 platters versus the older 40GB (10GB/platter).
I've ordered 2 from Staples and they were both upgraded to the 45GB.

MOSDEF -

Give them a call and have them pricematch Officedepot.com. I read that the drive is ~150 there. Maybe you can get back $20. Good luck.

NOT a hot deal. I've ordered this same drive 4 times with free zip drives for about $80 with 2 deals that can be found here by searching. One involved price matching staples itself and the other price matching office depot. Both deals are dead but there is a similar deal that price matches against OD I think for not quite as much as before. Of course the zip drive deal is dead now also, but the other things you mentioned can be tacked on then call back for the price match.

Saw on the box of the new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60GB 7200rpm hard drive that the ATA/100 card in now included in the box, so if someone finds a good deal on the 60GB (7200rpm drive is the Plus drive only), the deal gets better.
