OK Here's the lowdown:
two nights ago. This will only work if Staples cannot deliver the item to you in two or three days, meaning they can't pull the "Oh, I must add in shipping charges after we match price" slyness. In my case, they can't even get it to me 2nd or third day, it usually takes a week. I don't live out "in the sticks" either. I live in a suburb of Houston. Staples doesn't have any stores in Houston. This is good and bad for me. I can't take advantage of any hot deals at Staples B&M, but I can win on Staples PM when most others cannot because they cannot charge me shipping of any kind when they pricematch.
Now back to what I did, two nights ago. I found the cheapest price for the Palm IIIxe at
shopharmony for $209, no coupons required, and this is the before $50 MIR price. It was exciting directing the very pleasant, youn woman to the web site and then patiently listening to her explain how she would have to charge overnight shipping. I continued to listen as she advised me that perhaps I could find a better price if I were to shop around a bit more. I think she genuinely wanted to me beat Staples nominal price. Anyway, I remained cool. She calculated that with a $30 plus overnight shipping charge, the price match would better Staples nominal price by $1. I told I would still like to do it. Then we got around to her checking on delivery time to my area. After she hesitated a bit she said, " You know, it looks like we can have that Palm to your door in seven days." She then removed all shipping charges, I applied the 40 off $200 coupon, and we agreed that $182, with tax, would be charged to my credit card. This less the $50 MIR gives me a Palm for $132. And that's a Hot Deal. My boss paid $200 for his. I'm not gonna tell him 'bout my hot deal.
BTW, shopharmony currently shows Backordered 1 wk for the Palm IIIxe. Not sure what the next best price was, or wait one week.
And regarding the $5., my CSR first attempted to call the site. When there was no answer she somehow cameup with $30 plus dollars for overnight shipping. I know their policy says $5 in several places, but from reading of many others experiences, I've don't recall anyone reporting they "got away" with $5 for shipping. The real trick is to live where they can't deliver to ya, and have to rely on UPS.
