Possible Hard Drive Emergency

I was just poking around in the Component Services on my W2K system, and I looked under the Event Viewer:System tab to see what's been going on behind the scenes. Apparently, for the past 3-4 days, I've been getting a warning about my hard drive. It reads:

The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

That scares the hell out of me. What does this mean for me, and what steps should I take to possibly correct this problem (other than backing up all my data)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the website of the mfr of your drive and download utilities to check the drive. The SMART flag may be tripped. In this case, it is imperative to back up everything valuable on the drive and get a RMA.

Cheers!

if you have IBM hdd then you can run drive fitness available fron here to see if anything shows up.
while it's not foolproof, preventive backup may be prudent should the drive fail!
