Ok so at the Y today I found the aerobic room and there were these punching bags you could punch that were stood upright by water filled plastic bases.

Well I hit the back for a little bit and this was hours ago and I just noticed that when I try to straighten my pinker finger it straightens but lines up below my other fingers and feels kind of strained maybe I don't know. It does'nt hurt or anything but the pinky knuckle just does'nt straighten or go as high as the one on my other hand now. Is it just a strain or something because if a tendon or ligament moved I would think it would hurt alot?

Probably just sprained or something. I would try to rest it as much as you can for now, maybe ice it up a little. If it doesn't get better after a week or so, go see the doctor.

It's probably just bruised. It could also be jammed, which will hurt for a while, but goes away eventually.

The strange part is, is that it does'nt hurt at all, it's just the knkuckle won't let me straighten as high as normal. So my ligament or tendon did'nt slide off or out of place did it? I'm thinking that would hurt really bad but I have no idea so just wondering if it's worth going to the doctor for or not.

If it does not hurt, then I doubt the soft tissue has been pulled or sprained. It may be slight joint compression or bone dislocation. You could try pulling on the end of your finger to see if the bones pop back into place. In event of a dislocation, this is all the doctor would do anyway but you would have to pull hard. This is hard to do to your own hand.

You can dislocate a knuckly from punching a bag???

If it's a slight compression do those get better on their own?

Uh..yeah...especially if you don't know how to punch properly, which, surprisingly, a lot of people don't know.

But I don't notice any swelling or anything, just feels kind of weak and I can't raise my pinky finger when it's straight as high as normal.

Yes, it is possible to dislocate the bones in your fingers upon impact such as when punching a bag.
No, compressed, or dislocated, bones do not get better on their own over time. They need to be physically realigned, which usually occurs by pulling the finger back out and allowing the bones to pop back into place.

However, I have no idea what has actually happened to your hand and this discussion is based on assumptions rather than conclusive, visual evidence.

Plus, I am not a doctor and have no medical experience. I have only had a dislocated finger once in which I had to have my finger pulled back into place.

These are only suggestions that can help you for further research and understanding.

This description leads me to further believe your bones may be out of place. It would feel weak since the muscles are no longer in the proper position to move the bones, since the bones maybe misaligned.

Swelling usually occurs with soft tissue damage, which I do not believe you have.

I'm not sure, but I believe it could happen in such a fashion. Just give it a little bit of time, or call a chiropractor or something.

If I move my finger with my other hand in all directions there is not pain, it just does'nt want to straighten out like normal for some reason right now, I'm thinking it should clear up on it's own eventually, if it was dislocated would'nt it hurt if I physically moved the pinky finger and knuckly every which way with my other hand?

If you are moving the bone, then yes it would hurt. If it is not moving then it probably would not hurt. If the finger is moving then it is probably not dislocated

It should not hurt to pull the finger out a little just to check if that helps.

It is difficult to tell what is wrong.

So far it does'nt hurt at all not even a little. It's just if I make a fist with my right hand and try to raise my pinky finger straight out it won't straighten. The mid knuckly of the pinky will straighten but the base knuckly where the finger meets the palm does'nt want to straighten for some reason lol.

If you throw a bad punch, you can easily mess up your hand. It doesn't even have to be a hard one, either.

does the tendon stay centered over the knuckle when you move your finger through its range of motion

I don't know I can't really see it, it it does'nt would it hurt if I somehow moved the tendon out of place?
