im looking to buy something off the fs board, and it just got me thinking... imagine this.

someone goes on ebay and finds someone with really good feedback. this ebay person is not on at, so the scammer takes their id, and registers it. so the ebay id (real) is 'bob', and now, a fake bob is registered on at. bob then sells me a camera for 300 dollars. i believe bob is legit because of their ebay 'id'. i get my ass scammed.

so... is there anything i can do to prevent this? right now, i send email to the sellers ebay email account, but i cant see a sellers email anyways. so they could reply from any email and i wouldnt know.

the same scenario also goes for heatware... so... any thoughts? hopefully i dont give anyone any ideas... :|

Only trust heatware. And make sure they email you from their registered heatware account if you think they're using someone else's.

I hate eBay references. I never ever trust them. Especially when all the person does is buy 100 items, then sell an expensive laptop to scam someone at the end.

this is why its always good to check, double check, triple check, and then talk with other people who've dealt with this seller before.

How would the fake user know that you have sent an email through ebay if it wasnt their account? Just write something like "quote this line of text in your reply. JCLASDJF)(Q#J()F#" or something.

That's just the point... the fake user wouldn't know, so not getting a reply back from the fake user to that e-mail account or getting a reply back from the person the e-mail was actually sent to (saying that they haven't listed anything for sale on the boards here) would be good proof that the fake user is trying to scam by using ebay references that aren't his.

If the person says he has an ebay account and you see his ratings then what prevents you from emailing him just to comfirm that he's the owner of the ebay account?
