Question: Is it possible for a Prescott CPU to kill a motherboard that does not support the CPU?

Why I want to know is that I had sold a Shuttle SS51G to someone (locally) and he put a Prescott 2.4A chip in it. Of course it did not turn on since the board in that mini system does not support Prescott. Problem is that though the guy seems to understand my explanation that it does not support Prescott CPUs, he's convinced that I sold him a non-functional barebones. Nonsense. The system was working fine before being parted out and sold. Unfortunately for me at the time I didn't have parts to put into the system to show the guy that everything worked. He's gonna bring the barebones back to me Monday and I'm going to take a CPU out of another system to put in there and show him that everything works. However, I'm worried that the extra power draw of the Prescott may have potentially damaged the board or power supply. I guess I'll find out for sure Monday, but in the meantime does anyone have any personal experience or anecdotal evidence with a motherboard dying from use with a Prescott?

i doubt it could kill any socket 478 motherboard or even a 423 with a socket adapter, but it just might not boot or might be incredibly unstable due to current bios limitations and/or chipset limitations.
Yur best bet is to go to the motherboard maker's website and look up the latest bios for yur motherboard and see if it has support for the prescott. It is prefered to have a 3 or 4 stage power setup i believe for the prescott. Overclocking i would definately recommend an i865 or i875 as a min for the prescott. Good luck !
