possible for FTP server to bring computer out of sleep mode?

I was thinking about running an FTP server on my primary PC to share some files, but I also like my computer to go into S3 sleep after a specified idle period. Would it be possible to configure the PC to wake up when someone tries to connect to the FTP server from the internet (i.e. not from on the LAN)? I've been reading about wake-on-LAN, but from what I understand this won't work over the internet.

Is there any way to do what I am describing?

You could use WOL over VPN but that would require you to have something to run the VPN service also.

If the computer has Intel Q series chipset, you can go into the web interface and wake the computer if it has the AMT feature set up. But this would also mean who ever is doing this could also power off or reboot teh computer also.

I have yet to try this personally but it suppose to allow wake on lan over internet.

the other possibility is if the ftp server software has an option for waking or resuming the computer. I had though I had see something like that before but could be wrong
