Woohoo! I think I may have solved my problem. I finally got it to have it's IRQ but still suffered from lockups. I read on an Abit KT7 message board to install the Via drivers from the website one by one instead of just doing the 4-in-1.

After I did this, my stress test that locks up my computer within 2 minutes usually lasted over an hour.

My test: Play a DivX movie, MP3, and SiSoft Sandra Burn in wizard.

I had tried EVERYTHING, but that test would always fail within about 2 minutes. I hope I'm not jumping to conclusions, but it appears to be fixed now. I'll let the test run a little longer tonight.

Pass on the word!

Have you tried resetting the PCI Auto configuration in the BIOS? It should be under PCI/PnP. Reset is usually at "disabled'. Enabling it allows the BIOS to re-assign resources.

I'm glad you've solved your problem ctucker. But are you sure your system is really stable? I just ask because I too have a MSI Pro2A and a SB Live and had the same problem as you with lockups when playing videos. I installed the VIA drivers individually too and the problem seem to go away no more lockups when playing videos. Things were starting to look stable... or I thought. Then one day I was extracting some files, downloading from an ftp site, and copying files from one Hard Disk to another at the same time and bam.... lockup. I though maybe it was a random thing at first then I did some experiment cause it seemed to lock up when I was accessing the hard drive alot. So I started copying a bunch of files from one drive to another, then again from another drive to the other one, and basically put as much stress as I can on the ATA100 controller, and what do you know... lockups. I know this isn't a random thing cause I can make it lock up if I wanted to. I was just curious if you have tried doing that to test if your system is really stable... I guess it would require you to have more then one HD.

P.S. A have three HD in my computer, 30GB IBM 75GXP, 46GB Maxtor DM45+, and a 10GB Quantum KX.
