I've been having a horrible time trying to post to the forums at night. Takes forever to load the site and some other ones. Wasn't sure where the problem was but it appears like earthlink (my current isp) has a little trojan / security problem. Any other earthlink people experiencing these problems?

My experience with Earthlink lately has NOT been good. My ISP got switched from Teleport to OneMain & now to Earthlink. Ever since I switched to one of the earthlink dial up numbers, my connection has SUCKED. I connect at 52000, but it's dead slow.

I don't want to switch ISPs, but I may have to.

This problem has just cropped up in the last week or two. Some sites are connecting at normal speeds and some are just outright slow (forums :(). When I drag out the old modem and use my trusty old AOL account, it comes through without any problems. The even scarier thing is, I can surf at near normal speeds by just signing onto AOL through my earthlink account. I guess its using AOL's routing and only hitting part of Earthlink's network. I just wish they'd clean up their webmail to the point where you can still download the email using outlook after you viewed it online.
If it wasn't for the fact that they are the only local number that I can use my lan modem with, I'd drop them for someone else.

My earthlink dial up works great. I can only connect at 45.2 but at least it's not slower than that. I got 3 months for a dollar. I'm going back to a cable modem as soon as i move in a few weeks (new job = new toys). :)

It really is sad.. before the broadband craze struck, I had EarthLink dial-up, and got an average of 5-30% software compression yielding 8-12KB/sec of bandwidth consistently, and not to mention 110-160ms pings. I still have EarthLink dial-up for backup when my cable goes out, and lately they've started to suck. Random disconnects, actual packetloss, etc.. Really sad....

ratkil: in the long run, I've found my aol account to be a lot more useful on the business trips (minimum 3 months in the field a year covering this continent) than earthlink. I don't overly love their software but I made the mistake of installing the earthlink software on the laptop for the dialer (it uses slightly different and more numbers than the webpage lists) and it completely took over the system. I had to fight with it for 2 nights until I had my email back to outlook2k and everything. At least aol gave you the option to make its software the default. Also, in my use, earthlink is very limited outside of the us. At least aol still has an 800 number that works in canada.
