possible DOA 9700Pro

I got a 9700Pro for decent money. It hasn't been working other than it helped my Foxconn Sis 655FX motherboard to recognize my 9800Pro. I really would like to get this V/C working again but I have several problems:

1. The previous owner claimed it was OEM but the card itself does not come with any S/N sticker or anything that shows whether it was powered by or built by ATI. I went to Ati.com and I had to put it my 9800pro information just to ask them questions about the 9700pro. Weird system I tell you.

2. From the outside, the video card is immaculately clean like it was never installed. However, when I tried to install it the first time, it went thru post but I got no picture showing on my monitor. When I tried to install it a few weeks ago on another system but different power source, I got a long beep and short beep twice. The motherboard Tech Support told me it was the Video Card so whatever I thought in the first testing session could possibly be wrong. I thought that the card was simply shut down while the screen on DVI and stuck there. Reimage the video card with the original BIOS comes to mind but with unknown board maker and no pci video card, how could I possibly save this card?

3. I would like to know if there is anyone out there who relunctantly had to pay small amount of $$ to bring back their old out of warranty and/or dead V/C because of (user) fault? What is the procedure and how hard is it to deal with those Canadiens?

This will probably be the last attempt on AGP as my next system would be PCI-e only. Just save the laughs and AGP hatred on the side to save this old soul once and for all.

Thanks 😀

I?ve also got a dead 9700pro! It was never overclocked and only used for about 4 months but had it for well over a year. There?s no way of trying to cheat the system?. 12 Months Warranty after purchase is just that.. ? Only a few companies have lifetime warranties but the 9700pro you have doesn?t.

Nuf said.

not sure your warranty, but if it's still in effect, rma it. you'll probably get a 9800pro or x700pro back.

OEM cards should still come with the SN sticker. Someone did something to the card. I dont think you have a chance at an RMa.

Yep, you are outta luck. But I though ATI had an out of warranty repair service they offerd? of course, that may be well more than a new card would cost.

And to the OP, you did connect the 4-pin assy power conn?

That's what I'm thinking but the website has no link to that. Say if I purchase it at 50 bucks and willing to shell out 50 bucks in return for the repair whereas buying it new would cost me 100 bucks for example; it's fair right? I don't know...I haven't tried calling them yet ever since I found out how complicated the system is including they want to know exactly what you have in your computer type of thing. wtf, you know? Does anyone in Canada care so much to protect themselves that much?

Anyway, Killrose, I did that. First with my Antec 550...I got POST beep but no picture. However, with my CM430, I got long beep and two small beeps instead. Two different boards though. 550 was with foxconn 655 and RS430 with gigabyte 648FX.

I have a similar problem: A "beatifull" ATI 9700PRO buyed in EBAY with memory problems (image is weird). All I want to know is WHERE I can send the board for repair (memory replace or something). Just to ask this, the ATI Web ask me all but my underwear size and never answer!!

Not really, I just RMAed one BBATI 9700Pro several months ago (All ATI cards came with 3 year warranty), and I did get a 9700Pro back, and I am sure it isn't the same card I sent away.

I had a 9700np that gave me image problems in DX7 shaders only in some games, chekerboarding and wild colors in 3d, 2d was fine. I eneded up flashing the card with a 9500np bios and was able to use it that way in all apps perfectly.

I've test it in Pentium and AMD systems, and run hardware tests that detects "VGA memory errors". I have too a 9500 and 9800 (both pro), that works ok, so for me is clearly a hardware case...
