Possible dead motherboard? Or something else?

My BIOS is AMI and I've been experiencing between either 3 quick beeps or 4 quick beeps on bootup. The 4 beeps usually happen after clearing the CMOS and booting up, the 3 beeps happen every time I boot up after that. Stii no boot up and no video.

I've tried re-seating memory, vid card and CPU. It *did* boot up OK a few times after clearing the CMOS but not anymore. I've already tried using brand new mem chips so I dont think its the RAM. I dont think its the vid card either since that worked on bootup a few times....

Right now, I'm guessing its the mobo since 3 or 4 beeps seem to indicate a possible mobo problem according to the error beep codes.

Any other suggestions before I go ahead and buy a new motherboard??

Thanks in advance!!

Specs:
Asus P5AD2 Deluxe
P4 3.0ghz
1.5gigs DDR2 533mhz corsairs
Radeon x800 xt

Sorry for the x-post... Need urgent help... =T

i am inclined to think that your mobo is at fault.

Thanks for the link Spanky. I should've mentioned I already checked up on the AMI error codes in my post. I'm hoping its just the mobo. System was only 3 months old.... =T

if u have spare parts, you could try swapping things out.
i doubt this is it, but you could try putting in a pci video card.

btw, why would u need to buy a new mobo? can't you rma the suspected defective one?

Unfortunately, I don't have any PCI video cards lying around.. =T I'm really hoping its not the vid card. Replacing a $500 card will not be fun. *UGH*

And I can't RMA the mobo either.... out of frustration and carelessness when I was swapping out the RAM chips, I accidentally cracked one of the retainer clips on one of the DIMM slots. The slot still works, but they prob won't take back a mobo w/ a broken clip, even tho its not the cause of the initial problem! I sure bent myself over for that one. =T

i just happened to wander into the tech support forums to see if there were any interesting things to read and saw a familiar name. anyway, i'll give u $5 for ur old mobo

Awwwww.... I bet you miss me. 😉

I think I'mma try to have the mobo repaired from motherboardrepair.com... Should only be like $50. Then I can maybe build another system, or do something else with it, like play frisbee.

Its an Asus P5AD2 Deluxe.
How about I sell it to you for $100 then YOU get it fixed? 😀

how about u stop posting garbage in a serious forum such as tech support, and take the post count padding to off topic. n00b.
