Well I brought a K6-2 500Mhz CPU back home today.

Updated the BIOS on my ASUS TX97 to the 0112 version and all was OK...rebooted and checked all was still OK...no probs so far..

Took my old 233MMX out and put in the K6-2 tried to boot but nothing...powering up but no display.. ;(

Was aiming for 400Mhz at 6 x 66Mhz

Took the K6-2 out and put back the 233MMX..same thing no display..
Have tried a new display card and no go.

Have the thing in pieces now ...any ideas where it all went horribly wrong?

Do you need to have a CMOS battery that works in order to fire up a motherboard..the only other thing I can think of is that I shorted the CMOS jumper and possibly the battery is now flat?

The board won't even go to find the A drive

Help! ;)

Voltage? Voltage for the CPU core must be manually set on the TX97 motherboards.

If the inside of the machine is dusty....you ought to give it a clean. I hate the dust in HK....it's not grey....it's BLACK.....:(

Hmm...something is missing.

You took replaced the CPU from a working system, and didn't change anything else.

Tried to boot....nothing.

Put back original CPU and tried to boot....nothing....

Unless you had bad timing and the MB died, fried your MB with an ESD shock, or broke something on your MB changing out the CPU (bent a capacitor?), you should be fine....

Did you unhoot any cables? Is this an AT or ATX power connector? If AT, you want Black-to-Black on the two motherboard-Powersupply connectors.

Also, you called the title of this thread "Possible critical dust problem..." You didn't mention anything about dust in your original post..... I use scotch tape and old dryer sheets for filters inside my case over the intakes...works nicely and I replace about every other month...not much dust caught, but I do it anyway. MY SYSTEM IS CLEAN inside :)

Good luck!

The reference to critical dust is just a joke...it's just that i don't see anything else that I changed. System is very clean inside indeed.. :)
Have bought a new CMOS battery to see if that helps...will be attempting repair today sometime..
