I'm running an older processer, a Intel P4 2.0A Ghz Northwood. I originally had an Asus P4b266-C Motherboard that recently went toes up. The old motherboard had was a socket 478, with an Intel 845 Chipset. I replaced it with an Asus P4PE2-X 845PE ICH4. This is using what I thought was the Intel 845 chipset, and socket 478. I believe the new motherboard supports hyper-threading, even though my legacy processer doesn't. I didn't think this would cause a major issue.
I set-up my new motherboard. When I power it on, the box comes up for a second, then appears to turn off for about 4 seconds, then turns back on followed by a rapid high pitched pulsing beep. I can't match the error code to anything in the motherboard.
So here's the question finally. Did I screw and get a motherboard which isn't compatible with my odler processor? Any thoughts would be appreicated.
