Possible Car Option

think so? 92,000 on a 98 puts it at about 12k per year? Isn't that average?

Also, I've only purchased new cars. For a used one, is it okay to require a check of a garage before purchase? How do I truly know everything "works fine"

Looks like a fair price if it is in really good condition, you could probably get him to reduce the price. I'm also looking for an inexpensive used car and would most likely love to have one like this. As long as its clean and runs well I'd probably buy.

How would I get this done before purchasing the vehicle?

know anyone that is good with cars? if so, have them go with you. if not, i guess you could ask a mechanic to look at it. any other thoughts anyone?

Take it to NAPA and get a 100-point inspection.
Is that a normal request for buying a used vehicle?

Of course it is. You plan on buying a used car without knowing wth is wrong with it? You could drive it around and never know that the engine is being held in by twisty ties, there are holes rusting through everywhere that you havnt looked, and that the engine doesnt belong with the car, so most likely it was replaced partway through its life, and possibly has far more miles.

Also get the VIN number and do a check online CARFAX, it gives you a history of any reported accidents etc.

NEVER buy a used car without spending a measely 50 dollars or something to have it checked out. Thats like buying a house without getting an inspection first.

Also click the link, I think he already sold it 🙂

it's a great car, i have one and i love driving it. warning though, car is designed to run on premium (91 octane) gas. It works o.k. with the cheap stuff, but i notice a definite improvement after using the expensive stuff.

when you look at mileage, the total miles is more important than miles driven per year. In some ways, high mileage over a short time is better, because that probably means more freeway miles driven, so less actual wear on the engine and transmission.

and yes, pay 50 bucks to a trustworthy mechanic to get any used car inspected before you buy it. If the seller won't let you do it, there's something wrong with the car.

well, do you think that 92,000 miles is a lot?

i always liked the 90s maximas... if you put some dark tint in there it looks gangster to me. they have nice motors too 🙂

I'm also wondering if going back to a '98 model might be too old. I like that model way better than the newer ones, though

IMO, 92k miles for a maxima is ok ...if it had been a sable or a taurus, I would not have bought it... donno about the price though (better check kbb)

But its always a good decision to have it inspected by a trusted mechanic....
