I am working on a friends computer and it basically keeps blue screening during windows. I cant remember the exact error now but I looked up the code and it was something to the fact of bad sectors. So I tried running scan disk, but that kept freezing up on me. Now I ran PC doctor and the Linear Verify test for the disk drive failed giving me the error: [error verifying sectors blah-blah ecc error]. Is the HD toast or are there just some bad sectors that need to be reformatted? Thanks

Replace the drive. Modern drives shouldn't show bad sectors. You can no longer trust the drive. Drives are cheap. Emergency data recovery isn't.

Drive is going down the hill and the best thing to do is to replace the drive. Probably has some serious head crash spots that the drive will not read around. The more you try, the worse it's going to get. New drive is cheap anyway, so it's not worth for the hazzle to get something working that will eventually fail.
