I just sent some feelers towards my ex-wife and her significant other and they might be interested in joining my herd on TA Cube. I will talk to them more on Sunday.

She has a PII 300 and a P 133. He has a Mac G3 (dunno his MHz)and will soon be upgrading to a G4. That's not much but the main thing is that they are both psychology professors and could add their lab computers to the flock. She teaches multivariate stats and is a stats nut! Pending iffy departmental funding (I hate university administrators), their lab could receive 6 G4s and a couple of PIIIs shortly. They already have some G3s in the lab. They also are supervising about 10 graduate students between them.

This may prove to be a total no-go but at least for now, there's hope for a little more Borg power for my herd and I felt like sharing my thrill at possible assimilations! :D

Go Borg!!!

Mmm Russ. I just notice that you have no easy TA Cube setup disks for Macs! I'm so surprised ! ;)

Looks like if they get departmental decision, get their new computers, and finally decide to be assimilated, the Macs will have to do it the hard way. If this goes through, I will ask for help in making setup as easy for them as possible. I want to reiterate that this is just a positive feeler, they may decide not to.

DanC,

Is Russ' ex- part of his herd? ;)

Ahh, sweet anticipation...

Having a BORG infiltrator in academia could be highly rewarding. :) I don't have much use for Macs, but those G4's are beasts when it comes to crackin'. University IT types should be more open minded about projects like this than their peers in private industry--if there's not a $ in it, no interest. dennilfloss/Paulson--great job! :p

FYI, after Mac client configuration, placing a shortcut of the "faceless" client into the system "startup" folder is the best way to run the Mac client (similar to -install on a PC).

Also, be aware that due to piss poor air circulation, running the Mac client tends to overheat and freeze or lock-up Macs (iMacs, G3's, not run it on G4's yet).

Go Team AnandTech!
