Possibility of an WebDirectory?

I am writing a paper about why the internet is an unrealible source of information because it doesn't have a physical nature to it...not my choice...but I was thinking about methods of sorting and or accrediting websites. I was thinking if there was or maybe there is a "Phone Book" of internet sites broken down into categories... would that work and is it possible.

The internet is so dynamic, so constantly changing that anything near a complete directory would be impossible. However, within all this chaotic dynamism is stability, which can be seen in some of the larger sites. A catolog of stable sites might suffice?

this isn't for the paper i was just thinking and wondered if it could be a possibility...i totally agree with you Bop there is no way you can have a complete phonebook. I don't even want to know or even guess how vast the internet is.

the internet is good BECAUSE it doesnt have directory. It has no form or requirements beyond certain laws. What brings it down is crap sites and companies that prey on the unknowing.

what difference do you think it would really make to have a directory. You make it sound like it would hamper the stuff you could do when really it would just make things easier to find. As well as expose those crapsites.

there used to be internet phone books. they were outdated very quickly.
