possibility of a x800 to x800xl softmod

hmm, from what i read. Both cards are built on the same PCB design, and has the same cores, so both cards are essentially the same right? Just that x800 has 4 pipes disabled and downclocked.

Has a bios flash been done before? I reckon this would have a very high chance of success, but not sure if i should take the risk myself. I'm looking to buying a PowerColor x800 bravo edition pci-e card, and flashing it with a powercolor x800xl bios.

However strange thing is the x800xl powercolor version has an additional power requirement. This shouldn't hurt the chances on their x800 right? Since the x800xl do not require an additional power by default.

what do u guys reckon?

uhh probably not. the xl has much faster ram (linky) but the same core speed. i seriously doubt that the x800's ram could reach 1000MHz ddr from 700MHz.

ATI supplies the chips so the clock speed should be the same across all cards, but its up to the card manufacturer to put in the ram. Most will probably be 700MHz, but there's the small chance we could see an X800 with fast ram. But then it'd most likely have a higher price tag as well, sort of defeating the purpose of buying a cheaper card to turn it into a faster one, especially with the possible risks involved.

uhhh....thats what its supposed to be. check that link. we are talking about x800's here, not pros.

pci-e.

THe product in question is the Powercolor X800 (bravo) edtiion. Which i suspect is actually the powercolor x800xl downclocked. Both have strikingly similar features and i think you should be able to unlock pipes easily with it.

However the bravo edition is produced in highly limited quantities. only 1000 worldwide
