ok my setup is

AMD AM2 X2 3800+
2GB Corsair DDR2-667
Windows XP SP2/Vista Home Premium
Antec 380w TP-II
MSI K8M88 AGP8X
XFX 6600GT 8x AGP 128

When my temp hits 94c my PC freezes, games like CS 1.6 didnt hit that until lately, i took my GPU fan off and saw small corrosion of heat dispersion, cleaned the fan and put thermal paste on it...

my temps still rise pretty fast buy my idle/load temps are a lil lower, still causing freezes...

is this over-heating? how can I fix it? my graphics dont artifact or anything, just the freezing on games like HL-2

ok its been 10 minutes, testing under full load and my temps stay around 71-75c FULL load while I know this is still incredibly high is it bad?

You most likely just needed to clean your heatsink and fan. But no, 75°C isn't too hot, for a video card.

Those temps are safe.

On a hot day, some people idle at those temps.

I used NAPA Dielectric Grease Compound, it's a clear super-glue like substance, very good for car parts and radios etc. It's all I had, it's not as long lasting or as effective as AS5,but will this hurt it?

ok im running RIVAtuner on win vista with a HDR tester same as before...

in 5-6 minutes my temps reached 77 hi-load, possibly topping at 80c... i was freezing at 94c, so im wondering if after time these will keep going up?? and how to stop, also will a new fan/heatsink help?

what kinds should I use?

Yo!

75 (90 in teoretical too) degree are maybe safe for GPU but...

I thing you should to change heatsink with something quiet and more eficient.

Look for my sig - my GPU has max 63 C (very hot days -> 28 C room) in stress (1 hour in Real Time HDR IBL - best soft for cook the GPU) / 46 C idle.

So, high temps can stress (or even damage) others nearplaced components like condensators for example. Explore you card for any stangelooking/damaged things.

If you reach temps <70 in stess and there will still freeze sometimes you have to look for others reasons of the problem.
