Police on Wednesday arrested a German army officer suspected of posing as a Syrian refugee to carry out an attack that would be blamed on migrants.

According to the Frankfurt prosecutors in charge of the investigation, the 28-year-old, whose name wasn't revealed in accordance with local customs, lived an incredible double life: He registered as a Syrian refugee under a false name at the end of 2015 and subsequently claimed asylum in Bavaria, where he was assigned a place in a refugee shelter and even received benefits.

Spokeswoman of the Frankfurt prosecutor's office, told reporters that the 28-year-old army officer was of German origin and did not appear to have any Arabic language skills. “Why this went unnoticed, I'm unable to say,” Niesen said, calling the case “curious.”

that is rather curious

Sounds like one of our resident "Islam is evil incarnate" types taking their views to a logical extreme... if reality doesn't let you demonize all Muslims, invent your own reality.

Lol, the usual suspects are jumping to conclusions that fit according to what they wish to believe. They wish that the "real" threat is the familiar right wing white male.

Heck, I wish it were true too.

It makes no sense for him to frame the angelic Syrian Muslims by first registering as a refugee...because think it through. He would be revealed once the attack took place. For this "plan" to work the authorities would see he had refugee papers...and stop right there.

Think about it. Yeah.

So you're claiming that the investigators have just dreamed this up?

He's xenophobic. He hid a weapon in public place. He registered as a refugee under a fake name. What more do you need, a video confession? Just because his true origins were likely to have been uncovered in the end doesn't mean he wasn't plotting something. Remember, criminals are regularly short-sighted... it's not exactly a stretch to believe his froth-at-the-mouth hatred of foreigners took precedence over logic.

And how many prosecutions of Muslims in the USA are effectively entrapment by law enforcement? Can't have it both ways.

No one forced him to express xenophobia or register as a fake refugee. In fact, there's nothing in that story suggesting entrapment. There are no undercover agents goading him on, no informants getting him to confess views he otherwise wouldn't express. It looks more like law enforcement just got evidence of a potential threat and collected corroborating evidence to support it before making an arrest.

Besides, it's a little too obvious that you're trying to skirt around the likely reality here: that anti-Muslim hatred is getting to the point where extremists are willing to conduct false flag attacks to justify their cause. These kinds of ops will probably be very rare, to be sure, but we have to accept the possibility.

It is possible.

But more plausible would be bombings and fake identities. Him putting his fingerprint in the system and then retrieving a handgun personally just seems too illogical.

No, both entrapment of Muslims and this right wing guy involves excessive theorizing by law enforcement. Right now it is all just speculation.

Interesting sentence structure. Are you doubling down on the claim he was entrapped, or not?
