gaaaah!!!! slept at 3:30 last night copying data TO and then OFF of my brand new 750g and 320g freeagent pros. they are complete craps. no - i take that back... at least shit can be used for manure.. cannot believe seagate is continually selling these less-than-POS without a recall or something.
i received the 320g as a b-day gift and then purchased another 750g soon after (all happening last/this week). primary wanted this drive for the "seagate reliability" and the esata connection.
Surprise~ the box does not come with an esata cable (i'm seriously wondering if this is on purpose to hide the fact that their esata controllers are broken). after receiving the 320g as a gift, i've been running on usb up until yesterday. at first, it looked very cool. however, i was seeing multiple paging errors on the event viewer (i think this may be because of the sleep function... oh by the way, the drive will not wake up after falling asleep). worried that the drive may be defunct, i ran their seagate utility - came up good. okay, fine. turn off the computer for the night, and the drive's orange light still stays on. i figure that's just how it is.
last night, i got my esata cable and a new 750g seagate. first thing i do is hook up the 750 via the esata. everything looks to be good and i start transferring data on to it. and then i was like, WTF? it was SLOOOOWWWW. while the data was copying, i checked out the event viewer... and it was like paging error every 10 seconds... on top of that, there was a controller error on the drive as well. GAAAH. ran the seagate utility on the 750g - it tells me: please return your drive for RMA. serious W.T.F.
just to make sure again, i ran the drive check on the 320g - still comes up good. and then i realize all my data on the 320g are not showing up (did not realize at this point that my drive had a sleeping disorder)... serious panic mode. i finally managed to move all the files back (all the while experiencing continual write delay errors) and swapped the connections on the drives to test the esata controller on the 320g as well. the 750g now checks out fine via the usb connector but for the 320g, it tells me: your drive needs servicing, please RMA. O_O!!!
oh, and yeah, i would have never figured it out without the second drive, but when the computer turns off, the drive's light is supposed to turn off as well. also, as an added bonus, you can cook some srambled eggs and ham on the drive thanks to their heating technology.
time repackage the drives and ship em back.
cliff:
1. You're better off buying manure
2. If your finger itches to buy, chop it off
3. If your family member buys one for you, chuck it back at their face
4. If your SO buys you one, she's wanting to sabotage your pr0n collection. BEWARE
5. You can cook eggs and ham on it
