POS GE Cordless Phone

I've got two of these dogs. It's their 2.4GHz model. Bought one year and two weeks ago. Well, today when one of 'em died, I switched out the batteries and, of course, it worked fine. So, it's obviously a battery problem.
No biggie, except I was under the impression these rechargeable batteries rolled on for a long time. Is one year about average? Or did I get dud?

Sounds a little under average Carbo, I suppose it all depends on your charging habits.

They're NiCad batteries most likely which is the black sheep of the rechargeables.

You gotta let them sit at least overnight before using to let them get full charge, and if you don't periodically deep-cycle them (run them down to zero and all the way back up) they'll get bad mighty quickly. If you like the phones I'd suggest hunting down NiMH replacements which are a lot more reliable.

There are no charging "habits" to speak of. When I initially purchased and charged the phone, I let it charge uninterrupted for about 24 hours.
Now, when it isn't in use it is in the cradle, where it is automatically recharged.

Amnesiac, I think the battery is a NiMH. The label reads Nickel Metal Hydride. I guess the problem is related to never letting it run down.

GE makes crap consumer electronics.

All my Panasonic cordless phones have performed exceptionally well and have been very durable.

Our first 49MHz cordless phone worked after dropping it a few times and the battery lasted a good 8 years. Then one day the handset totally died 🙁

My current $49 Panasonic 900MHz cordless phone from CostCo B&M has worked like a champ since I bought it 5 years ago.

Yep, GE makes crappy cordless phones. Panasonic and Sony make the best ones. too bad Sony stop making cordless phones about half a year ago.

Yeah, I haven't been too thrilled with either GE phone since I got 'em. I guess my choices are to trash 'em and buy two different ones, or replace the battery, live with 'em for a while longer, and upgrade to one of the new 5.8GHz models making their way into the marketplace.

I had a GE Cordless phone. Wouldn't work unless it was charging all the time. Biggest POS I've ever owned. I'm definetly happy with either of my 2 Panasonic 900mhz phones now

They made POS cordless phones, I like them because they had great style but were overpriced for what you got.

If I were to buy a cordless phone today I'd stick with Uniden, Toshiba or Panasonic.
