Portrait mode causing problems?

Just wanted to ask if running a monitor in portrait instead of landscape mode can cause parts of the monitor to malfunction such as turning black. This has happened with two different monitors but only since I started using portrait mode. I'm running a HD3870 vid card and temps are normal. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah. Often some graphics drivers may have trouble dealing with screen rotation. Usually that manifests itself in slow screen updating or bugs like you're seeing. It's definitely not the monitor.

For example, overlay video may not support it. I'm not sure.

It shouldn't...

I've used portrait for a long time now with many video cards & LCDs...

When does it happen, & what is happening?

Parts of the screen turn black alternately. I have to restart the PC to clear it. Only happened twice so far.
