No sales tax. Doesn't mean much to me since I order shit online, but good if you need to pick up high-end items like say designer purses for the women folk.

Coworker picked up an LV or Gucci purse last time we were there.

LMFAO!!!!! :D

I even miss the rain, to be honest.
Living to Tucson I've found that there exists a Portland - Tucson axis. Folks living in Portland get fed up with the rain and gloom and move to Tucson. Folks living in Tucson visit Portland and fall in love with the green and move to Portland. Then every five to ten years they move back the other way again.

I can see that. It's going to be interesting to see how the overall cloudyness and rain affects me once I move back next year. The abundant sunshine is one thing I do like about New Mexico, but that's about where it ends.

Tracking this thread, I'll be in Portland next week too! My days will be pretty full though, not much spare time. :p

Ah yes, I forgot to mention the food carts - I have a few food cart websites bookmarked so I plan on hitting up a few for sure.

I left for a few hours to hit the gym and come back to all this...I really appreciate it! I'm usually pretty good about what to do in a new city but I figured there would be plenty of ATOTers in Portland and I'm glad to see I was right.

OMSI sounds fantastic...I definitely enjoy shopping but I don't have any particular needs right now either, so it'll be nice to just walk around.

So I've been here for about 7 hours now - thanks for all the suggestions, they've helped fill out my plans. I don't want to feel like I'm constantly on the go looking for the next place but at least I have ideas on what to do if I'm in a given area. So far today, I ate lunch at the Blueplate Diner, which was great, and then picked up a dozen (plus a bacon maple) at Voodoo Doughnuts. From there I drove to Clear Creek Distillery and had the 5 tastes and picked up 3 bottles. Spoke with girls for a while and realized that I was in the NW area that someone had mentioned. I fully intended on walking up and down 23rd Ave but first I wanted to stop into McMenamins' for a drink...and that became a few games of pool, 3 pints and 1 whiskey. So, I'm back at my friend's now, we're going to hang out tonight, I'll probably try to drop by one of the "fancier" bars later in the evening and then tomorrow we'll start all over again.

Really loving this city. :)
