It's not just "snow" and this isn't flatland. The roads are caked in ice and we have quite a few hills here. The cars driving on the roads don't grind the snow into slush, they compact it into ice, making things worse. Today's high was like 34 which means some of it started to melt. However, tonight's low is 29 which means all that water all over the roads is going to make for one damn giant frozen lake to drive on.
Then you throw in about 3 million people who drive on snow maybe 2 days every 2 or 3 years and you get catastrophe.
Don't assume that 2" of snow isn't dangerous, and don't laugh at people who are experts in driving in the rain. I'm sure southern-Californians would crap bricks if a little water hit the road, and I'm sure there would be accidents like crazy if typically-dry cities saw the rainfall that we get.
It's not funny, it's a goddamn nightmare on the roads with people zooming by at regular speeds, then try to make a slight curve in the road and end up nailing some pedestrian on the sidewalk or plant their car at the bottom of a ravine.
