according to some stoopid national magazine. I can't remember the name of the magazine, but I'll go looking online for the article, if my news station posts them online.

it said that Portland OR is rated #1 place to live. It was only a quick clip this morning, but I'd be interested in seeing who they interviewed about it. Hell, I live there and no one asked me!

Nah,

The best place to live has to have an ocean nearby. And a beach, and warm weather, and a winning football team... Oh wait, that's Tampa :)

I don't think so, Portland is for the Californians that were too lazy to make it to Seattle.

azazyel: ROTFL! That was hilarious! Maybe it's because I'm a lazy Californian, but I love Portland. I do hate Seattle though, so that takes care of part of your theory.

Portland's fantastic, but I don't know if I could live there. I like the warm California sun and the absolutely frigid Pacific Ocean. Here in the Bay Area it's just now getting cold, but it's still sunny. There is bad weather here, but when compare to other places it's like a resort.

I rule out living anywhere on the US west coast... You never know when it is going to attain "island" status.

Seriously, earthquakes scare me. I guess it is the idea of being buried alive under thousands of tons of rubble. I'm probably crazy, but that idea doesn't sit well with me.

I nice, warm, sunny place that isn't going to fall into the ocean. Thats all I want. :)

Portland is a fantastic place to live... uh... I mean... it sucks! Yeah, that's it! Anyone who wants to live in the Northwest, move to Seattle! Just stay out of Portland! ;)

1) Nothing on the East Coast can be considered, as the West Coast is the place to be. If you fight me, you experienced this.

2) Seattle, my hometown, is mediocre, leave it out.

3) Portland is one of the lamest cities in the world. They just say it is good because there are no gangs nearly whatsoever there.

Pittsburgh may not be the best city to live in, but it certainly is one of the prettiest.

The downtown has tall & nice buildings, clean streets, classy cathedrals, and old style shops / restaurants. That surrounded by a River, and hills.

The best thing about Seattle is the stuff arround it. In less than 3 hours you can hit any type of climate, deserts, rainforest, mountains, ocean, and lakes. The city itself is nothing to brag about.

Any specific reasons why you guys don't like Seattle? I always wanted to live there sometime after I finish college.

My top 5:

  1. San Fransisco
  2. New York City
  3. Portland
  4. Charlottesville, VA
  5. Atlanta

Atlanta would be first, but my family lives there. I still love it, though.

Frail other than it rains 13 months out of the year is good enough reason NOT to live in Seattle

Actually that is just a rumor that we started. It is actually 80 degrees and sunny the majority of the time. Again, it something we did to keep the Californians away.

Same with the "we have the highest suicide rate and the highest alcholics rate in the US" rumor.

I thought you were talking about San Diego, until you mentioned the football team. ;)

Some Seattle Rain Jokes
------------------------

-What does daylight-saving time mean in Seattle? An extra hour of rain.

-What do you call two straight days of rain in Seattle? A weekend.

-What's the definition of a Seattle optimist? A guy with a sun visor on his rain hat.

I like chicago a lot, the only problem is the gusty winds in the winter make it feel like it is below freezing a lot of the time.

NYC kinda sucks, too much traffic, too much crime (Guilliani has done a good job, but it is impossible to get crime rates truly low when you are the mayor of a city with 18mil. people and many people in poverty), the only good thing is the Yankees. :)

I've never been to the west coast, the farthest west I've been is Arizona. I'm an East Coast guy. :)

One sweet city I went through was Lakeland Fla. It was clean, had everything you need, great weather, and tons of stuff to do nearby. I wouldn't mind living there later on in life.

The biggest problem is that they automatically assume that it is best to live in a big city. Personally I would prefer Montana, but thats just me. If it had to be a city, I vote London; that place quicks a$$
