I want to design a ported box to house 2x 12" Inifinity REFERENCE 1230w subs. I've been doing tons of research and found most of what I need, but there are still a few questions.

Most of the information I have pertains to only 1 sub. I'm going to be using 2 subs so I don't know what I should do with the values the manufacturer gives me (especially the vbox). For one sub, the vbox is 2 cubic feet. So for 2 subs, would I double the vbox to 4 cubic feet?

That would be logical, but I'm thinking there is a fudge factor involved. Please help me all you experience box builders!

Just finished a design and it is below. The main question that I have is port placement!? Does it matter where the port goes as long as it is built to specification? Also, because I have 2 subs, do I just double the volume from 2ft^3 to 4ft^3? I also want to know some general guidelines of how far to put the subs away from the edges and how far apart from each other.

I plan on using PVC Pipe for the port length also. Thanks guys!

I would usually think you could just put a wall in between them... and also I think 2 feet is too big on port for 1230w's, that's what I'm running

Yep, since both subs need to be in their own sealed chambers, just double the volume.

As for distance from the edge of the box..as long as there is an inch or two from the side of the box, it will be fine. As far as distance from each other...a few inches away from the wall that separates the chambers will be fine.

AHHH YES! Thanks, I was looking to save some height! But the thing I'm wondering is, does port placement matter as long as they're the right size?!

Make sure the T-nuts for the mounting bolts are epoxied / glued in as well. The heavy vibration from a sub can cause a t-nut to fail if just relying on the barbs to hold them.

Port placement does matter too much. Meaning, there is always an extreme. From your design, you are on the right track.

Some additional info. Port placement.

Another favorite link of mine. :)

Thanks a lot! bcae1.com is aslo a favorite of mine, but I found nothing on port placement there.

I'm getting a lot closer to completing this design, only thing left is to figure out how long my deep sizes would have to be for a slanted box. I'm also going to relocate the ports to the middle to save some height.

AHHH sh!t. Can't have the ports in the middle like that. If I do, the top depth will have to be very long (the port length is 12.26" so I figure it's at least a 14" depth) and the bottom depth would be too short and make no slope at all. @#%@(Y*@&%(@ back to plan A

There's a piece of software that will help you figure all this out, but I can't think of the name right now for the life of me. Head over to caraudioforum.com and dig around
