Portal Question - Spoilerish!

I finished Portal, but I have a question about 1 part. When you're making your way through the facility, there's a vent that you encounter right after the first popup missile turret you activate to break the glass. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get up in that vent. There were no portal compatible walls through it I could see, and a large pipe in the hallway there prevents you from using a portal to get up higher and jump in.

I ended up using a stack of the computers from the office by the turret to make a pile and jump in. I'm wondering if this is how I was supposed to do it. What did you do?

Use portals and have the turret shoot a rocket into the cube tube above you, then use a cube.

check out one of the many portal walkthroughs. i vaguely remember that level and i think you could setup two portals so that the turret shoots a missile at the pipe (which is glass?) and breaks it.

I remember that part. I spent 20 minutes trying to get the turret to shoot itself before I realized that I could just walk out of the room.

yeah, that took me a while too. eventually i think i accidentally blew the glass pipe to get the cube

I remember that part. I tried getting the missle to break the glass but couldn't so I just stacked the computers and jump in.

Yup I had no clue what to do so I turned a computer on it's side and put a chair ontop of that and hopped into the vent... worked like a charm

I tried getting the missile to break the tube, but I must've had it hit in the wrong place. I was just thinking "chairs CAN'T be what the devs intended." So I went onto a forum and found out I was right.
