I've got Portal 2 on the PS3. I don't know how far I've gotten percentage wise, but I'm quite a way into the game. The PS3 with my saved game data has crapped out. Assuming I'm not able to get any info off that, I'd be willing to purchase the game for the new PC I'm building so I can finish the game, but I don't really want to replay it all. Is there a way to go to a certain point in the game, like borrow a save file or something?

Also, I started straight with Portal 2. I have a feeling it wouldn't be too much fun going backward to Portal after I've gotten spoiled with the more modern Portal 2, yes?

I seem to remember that the PS3 version came with a Steam copy for free. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5477-WPJM-9388#ps3codeforpc

You can definitely find a save file with all the levels unlocked and just pick up where you left off. Just put it in this directory:

<Steam Installation Directory>\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\SAVE

If you enjoyed Portal 2 you should absolutely go back and play the first one. The first half will probably be a bit slow, since it's mostly tutorial, but the whole thing isn't that long and is worth the experience.

Grrr, just went and looked at my box, and couldn't figure out where the code might have gone, until I realized I bought it used. Grrr.

Oh well, thanks for the replies. I'll probably end up getting both games for the PC and just finding a save game for #2.

Just installed Steam on my new computer and dowloaded Portal and Portal 2 for $13. Portal 1 is actually pretty nice. It does have a feeling of "more of the same" after you've played #2, but I'm still enjoying it. And anyway, this will be an easy way to finish Portal 2 cheaply, assuming I can find the right save file.

Should have played portal 1 first. I can understand how you feel how you do at the moment but wait till you get to the "end" of portal 1.

The game pace switches up and suddenly you're like WHOA WTF?!?!?!

Portal 2 because it's based on this and is based in a more "cinematic" way might seem more epic but POrtal 1 is pure distilled portal but without playing 1 first you won't get it. These two review describle the difference. (possible spoilers? can;t remember)
