portable (no install) video player software

my friend's company blocks all mods to her computer including installation of software. i sent he 2 videos to see but her windows media player does not play them.

is there a free portable video player available?

Also i sent her avi files. would converting them to other file type enable her to view them on windows media player?
 
I agree that VLC portable works great.

The question remains.... why would you want to jeopardize your friends job by helping her circumvent company policy?

Does she "need" these videos at work? Can she not wait until she gets home to view them?
 
There's a reason the company has it's policy in place. It's to protect their information. Remind of this. If she is bored at work, tell her find a place more challenging.

its complicated. she doesn't know computers much and she cannot do anything at home because her husband is a control freak. i will just visit her at work sometime and show her on my laptop (its a 2 min video of her niece's award ceremony which was covered on live TV broadcast that i recorded on my iphone from my tv...lol. (i'm her nephew and per her husband i or any part of her family is not allowed meet her...yes he is crazy)
 
Sounds like you need a full featured fsck the world suite. A few things I'd look at is a loaded USB drive of various portable apps, Tor browser bundle, and the bootable Tails operating system. Some or all the above should give her more freedom. A pay as you go smart phone might be a good idea too.

She's got bigger problems to deal with if she has a husband like that. I would tread carefully. He may go apeshit on her if she gets fired.
 
How do you know playing video files or running portable software circumvents company policy?

Giving ordinary employees administrative rights to their machines is a huge risk. They could install a lot of junk, make their systems unreliable and unstable, install viruses and compromise the whole network, etc..

Allowing them to run portable software and play video files is a completely different question.

It's also a different administrative setting. If the company doesn't want the user to run other software than what is installed, it can just disable the running of non-approved software.
