Portable MP3 Players

Hi,

I am looking into buying a portable mp3 player and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I prefer one that has quite a big of memory (not 32 or 64 mb) something that holds multiple cd's atleast. Anyone have any experience and can recommend me one. How is the iPOD? I have a PC not a mac by the way. Also, do you need anything special to be able to hook these up to your car stereo and be able to play if your stereo plays mp3s? Thanks for any help.

i want an iPod too. but i don't have $400 to spend right now. it's firewire. so you need a firewire port. there's a new Nomad somewhere that holds 30GB, i think. The iPod has some software somewhere that lets it work with a PC that i read about in OT. i'm looking into one of these too.

I got my wife a RIO 800 with 128mb of memory for XMAS she loves it.
She can hold approx 22 songs.

The thing about the larger players is that they use either a hard drive or a cd-rom to play your mp3's.
This makes them a lot less portable and prone to skipping if your doing something other than driving. ( Jogging for instance )
If the unit is just going to sit and play, Creative Nomads are a great choice.

But you really can't do anything athletic with them.

Thanks for the recommendatdions. I guess I'll just wait and see if they release the PC version of the iPOD like it said in anand's article. peace

It sound like you want a HD or flash mem based player, but if you are also considering CD MP3 players, the RioVolt SP250 is awesome. It's been a fantastic player for me.

Go with a flash memory based unit, it wont skip like a Cd player, and you wont have to worry about damaging the Harddrive style units if you plan to use it for more than just sitting around.
I had a Nike PSA-60 and an extra MMC card, made it a total of 96 meg. Not a ton of space but i was able to put about 20 songs on it at 128/44 quality.
You can find the newer Nike PSA-120 on Ebay for fairly cheap or check the For Sale forums here, add an MMC card and it goes up to 128meg total.
