For $10 more, you can get this 4.2 inch widescreen version
which is better since most movies are widescreen anyway.

If you cram a 16x9 widescreen movie into a 4-inch pan-and-scan
window, you get the equivalent of a 3-inch screen.

Also, how long does the battery last? Enough for an airplane trip?

Battery life seems good. 2.5-3.5 hours, but a reviewer claimed to get 3-4 hours.

Not to rain on the original post, because $169 is a fantastic deal for an portable and integrated DVD player at any screen size, but since this sort of item is basically a luxury(I mean really, if you were poor this probably wouldn't be the first thing to go spend money on), you might as well save up a little more and get something you can more seriously enjoy...

I'd get at least a 7" screen myself...but at the price those go for it's pretty easy to buy a cheapie $400-$500 notebook(well they used to have those notebook sales at staples heh) with a DVD drive...and get 14.1"...but then again the 7" DVD players are more portable.

Anyway, my point is, most of the time stuff like this is a waste of money for a ridiculous luxury(like those mini TVs...I still have one that I remember wanting SOOOO bad, but when you actually thought about it, watching TV on the road with crappy reception on a 1.5" screen really isn't very cool at all). So in order to recoup at least some of your money the item has to be good enough that you'll actually use it and not just leave it sitting around gathering dust(like my TV, and my Sega Nomad, and my Game Boy Advance, and about 200 other tech toys that I just *HAD* to have at one point...right there is like $400 of hardware and I've probably spent less than 3 days total using them combined...lol)

Bigger screen usually means shorter battery life too.
Many of these bigger-screen players cannot even play a whole 3-hour movie before it's out of juice.

Endurance is just as important as size.
