Portable DVD player questions

I'd like to get a portable DVD player, but 2-4 hours of battery life won't cut it for me. I need 12 hours. So...

1. Are there any that use relatively inexpensive rechargeable batteries? The only ones I've used have had non-replaceable or proprietary batteries so cheap 3rd party batteries are not an option for those.

2. I was looking at one in a store, and I saw that it had a pretty standard looking DC power plug, and above that it said something to the effect of DC 9v / 12v car adaptor. So if I bought/made a battery pack that took ~8 AA rechargeables in series, would that work to recharge it? I think the battery it came with was ~3000 mAH, I assume that is @ 9v? So a set of AA rechargeables should be able to mostly recharge it, right? Or do I have no idea what I'm talking about?

Yeah... but that's a lot more expensive than a couple of these and some NiMH AAs (which I already have 24 of).

But if that works, my idea should work too.

I have a poleroid which was like $100 at Walmart

The batties last about 2 1/2 hours and it came wiht the car adapter.

Also it had a switching power supply (big for me as I use it when I go to europe)

It does use a propritary battery but I got a energizer external pack and I get about 6 hours out of that.
