Port Sniffers

Of the analyzers I have looked at all seem to require that a NIC be specified to sniff traffic. Is there on where one can simply input an IP address and Port Number, to analyse the traffic flowing through there? TIA.

I think you need to define what you are doing, what your tools are, and what you hope to get out of this, as I'm confused by your question.

You cannot remotely monitor traffic on a server without special setup/software.

Seems like your looking for a hardware solution or device that sits in front of your gateway to manage/shape traffic.

Here is a scenario that may shed some light. Let us say a company/organization has an employee who has a dial-up/DSL/cable connection with an ISP for which s/he is being compensated by his/her employer. If the employer wanted to monitor/sniff data packets utilizing certain ports without using the ISP in question, or installing a logger on the employee's computer is this possible and if so how?

The company could monitor the stuff coming to its network or leaving its network without installing something at the remote user's household.

Problem is that the connection that needs to be monitored exists outside the company's network.

good luck then. You need a way to "see" the traffic.
