Port Scan by my DNS????

Hi Y'all,

I just recieved a series of port scans from my DNS and I was wondering what the hell that means. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

07/23/2001 15:52:43.720 - Possible Port Scan - Source:206.13.xx.xx, 53, WAN - Destination:64.168.xxx.xxx, 4266, LAN - -

As Always,
D

Port 53 is what BIND (and other DNS servers ) listen on. That's normal. Standard protocol for dns queries is udp, but it can fall back to tcp.

If you're not running a nameserver then it's just someone poking. No biggee in my mind.

If you ARE running a DNS server make sure you have the most updated version (I'm speaking from the BIND world.) DNS servers are notorious for having security holes.
