i am looking for a list of ports that need to be opened for various apps like netmeeting, or AOL IM...and any others as well..

Do you guys know where i can find a list?
 
Here are some I picked off my router web interface:

7 - Echo
21 - FTP
23 - TELNET)
25 - SMTP
53 - DNS
79 - finger
80 - http
110 - pop3
119 - nntp
161 - snmp
162 - snmp trap
443 https
 
You shouldn't need to "open" ports for most well behaved client programs. Generally, your firewall should know what connections have been established by clients behind it, and allow the corresponding return packets back in. What kind of hardware are you using?

I'm not sure about netmeeting, but you should not need to open ports to handle simple *client-side* tasks like web browsing and IM with the hardware you are using.

the simple one i am not interested in....FTP does need to be setup though...what i need it for is the telephone aspect of Yahoo messenger, Netmeeting and IM file transfer....
 
AOL intstant messanger cannot send files from a user behind a firewall to another user behind a firewall. But you should be able to send a file to a user that is not behind a firewall.
