Port Fowarding Question

Hi,

My roomate for some reason put up a service that binds Global Ports 1-65000 to Local Port 1. It is a dynamic setting, which I guess means it works for all the devices on the network. My question is, is this just another way of putting computers into DMZ mode or what? Or will this setting only serve to slow down the router?

Sounds like he was playing with tcpmux. Telnet to the port and type HELP and hit enter. Does it list any services?

It's a way of only having to open one port and serving services through this one port. It is not used any more and was mainly seen in the unix world.
