Port forwarding with Linksys routers

I'm trying to forward ports essentially from one router to another, and finally to my PC. Here's the setup:

Modem --> Linksys BEFW11S4 --> Linksys RT31P2 --> PC

What I've tried so far are forwarding a port to the RT, then from the RT to the PC. I've also tried DMZ on the BEFW to the RT, then forwarding the port to the PC. Neither of these have worked. I can't seem to find any hints online either. Also tried calling Linksys support...was absolutely no help.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I guess that tech. support is Not so good in explaining themselves, and neither are you.

How the Routers are connected one to the other?

Which application needs to use the ports?

What types of IPs are involved?

Are there Software Firewalls, AntiVirus etc, in-between?

I have forwarded ports through chains of routers in the past and not had any significant problems once everything was configured correctly. The hard part is getting them configured properly. ;)

Since yours is not working, I would recommend plugging your PC directly into the BEFW11S4 directly first and attempt to make the port forwarding work that way. Then, once you have it working, change your forwarding entries on the BEFW11S4 to the static 'uplink' IP address of the RT31P2 and plug the PC back into that one and set the forwarding entries on the RT31P2 to the IP address of your PC.

Another option would be to disable the router functions (DHCP, Firewall, etc.) on the RT31P2 if possible and merely use it as a switch/repeater between the BEFW11S4 and your PC by connecting the two routers together on LAN ports instead of using the WAN port on the RT31P2 to talk to the BEFW11S4. Then your PC would receive an IP address from teh BEFW11S4 and you only have to forward ports through one router instead of through two..

edit: To add one more question to JackMDS' list: Why do you need two routers in the first place? If you don't need both of them you could simplify things greatly by just keeping one.
